Reflections of the Future


Forgot how prominently the Moog is used on this exciting Supremes track - this must have blown a few minds back in the day!

What someone online said: 

"Probably the first hit single to feature a Moog synthesizer, Diana Ross and the Supremes tried to cash in on the psychedelic sounds of 1967 with the release of this single in July. Apparently, Motown was one of the first ten clients to buy a Moog synthesizer."

Supposedly, according to Ross, they were influenced by "Strawberry Fields" and other psychedelic Beatles songs. 

Just as "Strawberry Fields" didn't get to Number 1 but stopped short at #2 in the UK, likewise "Reflections" got to #2 in the USA - a slight shortfall, perhaps the avant-ism having an effect.
